Frequently Asked Questions
Siemens’ standard lifecycle model designates the P.M410 phase as the “Cancellation” or “Discontinuation” stage. However, the official Product Discontinuation Notice (PDN) for the S7-300 and ET200M refers to this phase as “Type Discontinuation.”
This term highlights that the entire product family is being phased out, not just individual components. This stage, P.M410, is clearly distinguished from P.M490. With the latter, all support and replacement parts will be officially discontinued.
The P.M410 Type Discontinuation means Siemens has stopped producing the S7-300 and ET 200M as new parts with supply now limited to spares only. While this can make replacements harder to source and prices more volatile, it doesn’t have to be disruptive.
Lifecycle notices are designed to provide users with ample time to prepare. This could involve securing essential spare parts now or considering upgrades such as the S7-1500. Many businesses benefit from collaborating with a trusted supplier like EU Automation. This partnership ensures they have continuous access to essential components, which helps maintain production continuity even when certain products are discontinued.
Siemens defines the lifecycle of S7‑300 and ET 200M components as follows:
- 01/10/2023 – Phase-out announced (P.M400)
- 01/10/2025 – Type discontinuation – Spare parts only (P.M410)
- 01/10/2033 – Discontinuation (P.M490)
- 01/10/2035 – End of lifecycle – Obsolete (P.M500)
The Siemens lifecycle follows a clear path. During the active phase (P.M300) products are widely available at standard prices. Once the phase-out is announced (P.M400), as with the S7-300 and ET200M in October 2023, availability remains but demand begins to rise.
At the type discontinuation stage (P.M410), which takes effect in October 2025, new production will cease completely. Only spare parts will be available, which often results in price increases and a tighter supply.
Starting in 2033, spare availability decreases significantly. Costs rise as stock becomes limited. By 2035, the range reaches P.M500, becoming fully obsolete and unsupported. In practice, users who act early can secure critical spare parts. They can also plan for migration. This proactive approach allows them to retain more control over costs, continuity, and supply stability.

Siemens has discontinued the S7-300 and ET 200M product lines. However, thousands of core components, including CPUs, I/O modules, communications cards, and accessories, are still available through trusted suppliers like EU Automation. Simply search for your needed part and our sourcing experts will work quickly to locate and deliver it to you with minimal disruption.
To migrate from S7-300 or SIMATIC ET 200M, Siemens recommends using the TIA Selection Tool. This tool is available for free as a desktop or cloud version. It helps in planning and configuring your new system, including module selection, network, and power supplies. Therefore, this allows for precise migration to the modern S7-1500 controller platform and distributed I/O systems like ET 200SP HA or ET 200MP.
For detailed engineering, refer to the official Migration Guide: SIMATIC S7-300/400 to S7-1500. This outlines hardware conversion steps, CPU module mapping and programming adaptation advice.
When transitioning ET 200M I/O modules, Siemens provides I/O adapter solutions. They also offer retrofit guides to help mount legacy modules onto the new ET 200SP HA system with minimal rewiring.

Yes. Installed S7-300 systems can continue to operate and Siemens still provides documentation and legacy downloads via the Support Portal. The key change at P.M410 is hardware availability. New production stops and supply shifts to “spare-parts-only” so the operational risk is primarily parts scarcity and rising prices. Plan for extended lead times, maintain a critical spares kit and document your current firmware/engineering tool versions for future maintenance.
